Why Terpsis processes data, and on what basis

Three purposes, and no others: delivering the pages you ask for, remembering the few choices you make while using them, and — only if you allow it — measuring how the site is used.

Technical request data is processed in the legitimate interests of running the service — delivering pages, keeping the site available and protecting it from abuse (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). What the site stores in your browser is strictly necessary for features you switch on yourself, stays on your device, and never reaches Terpsis. Privacy-friendly usage analytics relies on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving Terpsis (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR); you can object at any time by opting out.

Terpsis does not profile you, does not make automated decisions about you, and does not use your data for advertising.

Local storage and preferences

Terpsis stores a little information on your device to provide the features you use: the games you mark and your privacy choice. This storage is needed for those features and does not depend on analytics. Nothing else is stored, and Terpsis sets no cookies of its own.

Your saved game lists stay in your browser. Terpsis does not send them to our servers — there is no server to send them to, and no account they could belong to.

This data stays until you clear it. Removing your browser’s site data for Terpsis removes it immediately.

Hosting, technical data and how long it is kept

Terpsis is delivered through Cloudflare. Like most web infrastructure providers, Cloudflare may process technical request information such as IP addresses, browser information and request metadata to deliver, secure and operate the service.

Terpsis keeps no application logs of its own. A small share of requests — addresses that do not match a prepared page — is handled by a Cloudflare Worker. The link to a game’s Steam page passes through it too: the Worker notes which game’s Steam link was followed and from which Terpsis page — Terpsis records no IP address or identifier with it — and sends you on to Steam.

Cloudflare keeps those invocation logs for 3 days and then deletes them.

Who else receives data

Two providers are involved when a page simply loads: Cloudflare, which hosts and delivers the site, and Valve, because game covers, screenshots and trailers come from Steam’s media servers; for the few games without Steam media, images come from the RAWG, OpenCritic or IGDB servers instead. They receive technical request information such as your IP address and browser.

One more only after you act: YouTube, when you open a game card that has no Steam trailer. It is embedded through youtube-nocookie.com and is never contacted while you are simply browsing the catalog. Fonts and the video player are served from this site itself, so no other provider is contacted on an ordinary visit.

Unless you opt out of analytics, Cloudflare also receives page speed measurements (Cloudflare Web Analytics), and one more provider receives data: Umami Cloud. Both are described below. There are no other recipients. Terpsis does not sell your data and does not share it for advertising. Both providers operate internationally, so technical request data may be processed outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area, under those providers’ own terms.

Privacy-friendly analytics

Terpsis uses Umami Cloud to understand traffic and how the product is used in aggregate: which pages are visited and where visitors come from, and product actions such as switching browse modes, applying filters, searching, opening games, starting trailers, marking games and following links out to stores and review sites, plus technical errors in the page (the file, the line and the start of the error message). The words you search for are not sent — only the number of results and the length of the query, in ranges. Analytics is on by default. A short notice says so on your first visit: “Opt out” there, or in “Privacy settings”, switches it off in this browser, and from then on nothing is sent.

Umami works without cookies and stores nothing on your device. Terpsis is configured to use Umami’s EU data region. To tell visits apart, Umami derives a hashed session value from your IP address, your browser’s User-Agent and the site ID; according to Umami, the IP address itself is not stored. Terpsis gives Umami no user ID or other identifier. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Terpsis treats it as an opt-out and does not load Umami; browsers that send Do Not Track are not counted either. You can turn analytics off at any time in “Privacy settings” — at the bottom of this page and in the catalog’s Filters panel. If your browser blocks site data, analytics stays off, since an opt-out could not be remembered. Terpsis does not use advertising trackers or marketing cookies.

To see how fast pages load and respond for visitors, Terpsis also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. Its script measures page speed — how soon the main content appears, how quickly the page reacts to a tap or click, and whether it shifts while loading — and sends these timings with the page address (without the part after # and without query parameters), the address you came from cleaned the same way, and your browser’s technical details; Cloudflare derives the country from the request. According to Cloudflare, it uses no cookies or other storage on your device and does not identify or follow visitors by IP address, browser or any other fingerprint. It follows the same choice as the analytics above: it is not loaded if you opt out or if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, and from the moment you opt out nothing more is sent.

Your rights and choices

You can remove locally saved Terpsis data at any time using your browser’s site-data controls. Clearing it removes your saved games and privacy choice, including an opt-out from analytics — analytics is then on again until you opt out once more; nothing else is affected.

Where data protection law applies to you, you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Because Terpsis holds no account and no server-side records about you, most such requests concern the providers listed above; we will help you direct them.
